Telecommunications, roads, ports and airports
Telecommunications
Communication by telephone, cellular phones, fax, cable, Internet or other technologies is clear and effective thanks to the island's privileged geographic location. The country possesses one of the most advanced systems in Latin America, whose quality is comparable to the most developed countries in the world. Residential and mobile telephone communication is very advanced, with various options in both multinational and local services providers, among which are Codetel (formerly Verizon, acquired by American Movil at the beginning of 2006), Orange (France Telecom), Centennial and Tricom.

Autopista Duarte, Carretera Sánchez, and Carretera Mella, the longest freeways, connect from Santo Domingo all three greater regions: the northern or Cibao, southeastern, and south-western, respectively. In addition, more than 6,000 KM of roads cross the different provinces, making easier commercial flow and transportation of merchandise and passengers. Main cities such as Santo Domingo and Santiago have modern highways and freeways that expedite urban traffic.
